Two Doves

______________

As I sat in solitude

I saw them dancing through the trees

In the cold quiet night

Hands around each other

Dressed in white

As if longing wasn’t damning enough

To see lovers wander through the grass

Whispering into each others ears

And hearing one another laugh

Two careless creatures

Doves, about to take flight

Into the dark

Together

That was much worse
