Multi-media artist Owen Carswell grew up in Boise, Idaho. Throughout his youth he would become enamored with artists like William Basinski, Tim Hecker, Stars of the Lid, Celer, and Aphex Twin. These artists along with the tribulations of life would go on to influence his artistic output in the subsequent years.
Owen has released a plethora of music under various pseudonyms like Public Access, Magic Window, Rudy, Interim, etc. As well as doing production work for multiple artists (most of which are released via the Boise based independent label 05DYNSTY).
While other projects like Public Access or Magic Window may veer into genres like instrumental hip-hop, Jungle, or IDM, his self-titled works remain the core of his artistic vision. Popular labels used to describe the type of music Owen composes would be ambient, drone, experimental, and so on.
Philosophers of language have argued that the boundaries of thought are inseparable from the boundaries of language. Music is a language of its own, possessing a vocabulary capable of communicating where words may fail. These compositions inhabit a space of evoking emotional states that resist verbal description. The work is less an attempt to accompany language than to speak beyond it.
